It's not Batman and Sons, but...

  • Nov. 11th, 2009 at 5:08 PM

This happens to me once in awhile. I'm working on a drawing and it's not coming out the way I want it to. So the best thing to do is to step away and go back to it later. For me, I sometimes wait until the next day.

Well, it happened the other day, and I was frustrated because I wanted the drawing done that day. So as I'm grumbling, I grabbed a new sheet of paper and started a new drawing, unrelated to the subject I was working on, but always close to my heart.

So guess who these ladies are?

P.S. The next day, I got the other drawing I was working on, finished. Yay!

P.S.S. If anyone wants icons of the ladies, let me know. Thanks.

Happy Thanksgiving

I was planning on taking a break from holiday drawings after finishing the Loeb & Sale tribute, but when I did the Halloween one with Tim and Terry. Well…

Some icons to gobble up. (Sorry)

You just have to see this...

A special thank you to Bluangel13 for allowing me to post the picture. :)

Mr. Bat-Mom Part One

  • Oct. 16th, 2009 at 9:44 PM

Wait, it's not November first?

I'll be the first one to admit, I love stories of Bruce's failed attempt at domestic life. This man has been portrayed as someone who can burn a pot of water. But what if he was able to overcome his insecurities to the daily chores he thinks is part of a normal life, and step up to the plate to help his family out in their time of need?

Well, in this first Bat-chapter, we have witnessed Bruce winning the approval of Alfred and his two youngest sons, Tim and Terry as he puts his best efforts to care for them. But for the two older boys, Dick and Jason, this sudden change in their father has become their worse nightmare.

So what exactly will these two Robins do to pull Bruce out of the kitchen and back to being the Dark Knight?

Well, you’ll just have to wait for the next Bat-chapter of Mr. Bat-Mom!

(Hmm, better start working on it.)

Note: I was going to do this story first before Rivalry but of course, I changed my mind. So for me, I still think of this story taking place before JLA/JSA Family Gathering. If you want to think that way too, that's fine with me. :)

Right from the Bat-kitchen... Icons!

Halloween

My tribute to Jeph Loeb & Tim Sale continues...

...And comes to an end.

Oooo... did this year go by fast or what?

Though we may have our opinions about the writers and artists who give life to our favorites characters, where some are considered god-like or good to evacuate one's stomach, their impact to the world of comics are and will be felt for years to come. I know for myself, when I pick up my pencil, I remember those who are my greatest influence and hope with my first stroke on the paper that I can be just as good as they are.

This is the end to my tribute to Mr. Loeb and Mr. Sale, but it’s only the beginning. There are many I hope one day to honor, so keep a lookout for them.

Here's some treats...

What the hell, it's Halloween! One more treat...

Watch out for the rocks...

Happy Halloween! See you in the next update.

Super Holiday

My tribute to Jeph Loeb & Tim Sale continues...

So what is 'Super Holiday'? Well... it's Chris Kent's Birthday!

There are no major holidays in the United States in the month of August and since I'm loosely following
Batman: Long Halloween, a birthday celebration it is!

So where's the cake?

Until Labor Day...

*Edited* I was half asleep when I first posted this and forgot the icons!

Just a footnote on my history with Batman and Sons, July 4th will be the one year anniversary I posted the first story (Back to the Cave) on Deviantart. Wow! That went by fast!

Until Super Holiday... (What's 'Super Holiday'?)

ICONS!!

Blowing my own horn, so bear with me.

Newsarama did a countdown of the best and worst fathers in comics. Go down to the worst list, Batman is number 10 and I got a mention in it! Wow!

(Well, that explains why my Deviantart account has been having heavy traffic these past two days.)

Some drawings I've been meaning to do...

  • Jun. 14th, 2009 at 8:46 PM

I haven't done a group drawing of Batman and the boys since all the Christmas drawings. I'll have to make time to do more of these. :)

In case some of you were wondering how Terry did the painting for Father's Day...

Well, he had a helping hand. :)

Have a great week!

P.S. I'll make some icons tomorrow.

DC Comics Imaginary stories

  • May. 3rd, 2009 at 6:23 PM

The recent posting I had done and a comment left at my Deviantart account got me thinking of the rich history of DC Comics Imaginary stories and how much their concept was much of an influence as the Tiny Titans were for the Batman and Sons webcomic, even though I haven‘t realized it until now.

I read many of these imaginary stories growing up and my favorite one was the Super-Sons. There were others that were just as entertaining and I went digging around my collection to find one example that made me laugh out loud.

The following images come from Action Comics 392, Sept 1970, called ‘The Shame of the Super-Son!, this issue is part two of the story, ‘The Punishment of Superman’s Son’ from Action Comics 391, where Superman, believing that his son had become a menace, removed his superpowers by exposing him to Gold K. The story picks on how the Superman's son deals with the loss of his strength. If you want to know the ending, Superman, using special bracelets he received from the scientists in Kandor, gave his own superpowers to his son.

Now I wasn’t able to find issue 391 in my collection, and I’ll be looking for one on Ebay, but what I love about this one is how the characters are at home, especially Batman. Take a look…

Looks like Superman of this world wasn't married to Lois Lane. :(

Batman is in the den, watching a cowboy movie. Batman is in the den...

I love this page above.

Aren't these images wonderful?

And why do I bring this up?

There are many readers out there who don’t know the Imaginary stories DC Comics produced decades ago, where the rules were bent and the ideas of ‘What if’ were meant to be fun.

That is exactly what I wanted when I started out with the Batman and Sons webcomic, I just wanted (and still do) for the stories to be fun and worry-free. Who cares if they were born with their mask on? But when I started working on Cabbage Patch, I kept thinking of what others would think and the question that I believed would be asked, ‘Why does Terry have on his mask?’ I kept debating about it, to the point I delayed posting the story, that should have been up in April. Thankfully, I finally decided that my worries were unnecessary, and I knew that many of you out there are smart enough to know the difference.

I regret my comments on both my journal and Deviantart, but I won’t remove them and leave them there as a reminder for myself not to take it so seriously and have fun, just as I wanted from the start.

Thank you all for the support you have given me and until the next posting,

TBC

Cabbage Patch

Let's take a few steps back...

I had an argument with myself which caused me to delay the posting of this story, on whether or not to have Terry wearing his mask. But then I decided, hey, this is how everyone knows him in this universe.

I can never forget them... Icons!

70 and Counting

  • Apr. 22nd, 2009 at 11:38 PM

Do you know..?

Celebrating Batman’s 70th anniversary.

You don't see their names, but it doesn't mean they are not there.

To all the writers, artists, inkers, letterers, colorists, editors and anyone who helped to bring this great character to life (Yes, even you, Grant Morrison), I thank you.

Batman's first appearance in Detective 27, May 1939, according this site, the comic book was released on April 18, 1939.

Every time I do these updates, I keep forgetting to mention that if there are any drawings from the Batman and Sons comic you like to see as an icon, just let me know and I'll do it. :)

And I promise this is not April Fool's joke. :)
